Make the most out of your video call

It’s so easy to drop a quick call, text message or email, but working from home really pulls away the human element of work that we very much need.

According to a survey of UK adults, feelings of loneliness more than doubled during the COVID-19 lockdown, not surprisingly. Working to combat this with the tools available can help many, like switching to a video call. Just by seeing a friendly face can really brighten your mood, or someone else’s. There really is no substitute for seeing another person in real life, but a video call comes up pretty close! So, we really must take advantage.

It is still a new concept for some of us, so we’ve highlighted our top pointers to ensure your video call runs as seamlessly as possible

Lighting & Positioning

Make sure you’re in a well-lit room and can be seen easily. Sitting with a light behind you will make you look more like a silhouette, whereas light in front, or slightly side-on can be extremely flattering – as long as it’s not too bright! A nice soft and subtle natural light is perfect.

Sound

If your desk is by a noisy window or you live next to a busy road, it’s best to keep the windows shut and minimize any distractions. If you’re on a larger call it’s best to mute your microphone when not speaking – making the call as sharp as possible.

Tools

Have a play and get used to your video calling software to ensure you’re really making the most out of all functionality. eve’s collaboration feature allows you to make your video call interactive and extremely efficient – take a look here.
